About The Position

The Trade Compliance & Logistics Manager for North America will manage Trade Compliance and Logistics activities for PEI-Genesis Inc North America, while supporting globally through a cross functional team. They are responsible for the classification and clearance of import/export shipments in compliance with all respective Government regulations. Define the “how” and support the regional management to ensure adherence to regional Customs Laws and other applicable regulations as it relates to the PEI-Genesis importation and exportation of merchandise. Maintain good working relationships, cooperate, and liaise actively with Sales, Purchasing, Accounting, Order Administration Operations, and IT; other outside companies including freight forwarders, Customhouse brokers; government bodies and their representatives. Logistically this includes administering 3PL and 4PL programs, ensuring customs regulations are strictly followed, and aligning logistics decisions with PEI-Genesis’ overall business strategies and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in transportation, logistics, supply chains or other related discipline
  • Direct experience in either procurement or logistics roles or supply chain environments is a pre-requisite
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience with the essential tasks and responsibilities of this role
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in Customs compliance and audit practices.
  • Willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally as needed (up to 10%)
  • Must demonstrate excellent knowledge of U.S. government import and export compliance processes and regulations, including knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification and product valuation.
  • Possess deep understanding of commodity code classifications on imported goods along with their relevant government designations
  • Must demonstrate proficient knowledge of U.S. Free Trade Agreements
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills (verbal and written presentation) with ability to implement and conduct training programs.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as product catalogs, promotions, procedure manuals, purchase orders and other customer documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effective listening skills partnered with ability to speak effectively with customers.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, electronic data or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary internal contact for day-to-day shipping matters and be a reliable SME for PEI-Genesis Management
  • Identify short and long-term logistics opportunities that align with the PEI-Genesis’ values and objectives
  • Manage multi-carrier parcel shipping relationships to limit unnecessary fees, identify cost saving opportunities, and support profitability.
  • Obtain recommendations and innovative concepts from providers to improve shipping efficiency
  • Work with the Analytics team to produce routine and ad-hoc reporting for shipments data.
  • Leverage data for 3PL contract negotiations, to create cost analysis reporting, and analyze trends to adjust logistics operating plans
  • Optimize work processes for logistics activity in North America by following a continuous improvement model.
  • Be the business sponsor and champion for any internal systems and third-party applications that support logistics activities
  • Create and maintain SOPs and work instructions for logistics in accordance with company policies, quality frameworks, and compliance requirements
  • Implement and monitor import/export policies, procedures, and best practices necessary to ensure compliance by the businesses operating in the region.
  • Work with other departments and business leaders to improve the import and export processes in the assigned Regions.
  • Liaison with external customs brokers, agents, or attorneys to identify duty drawback programs, duty free zones and support internal customers by facilitating advice
  • Maintain and establish import and export tariff classifications of products as necessary
  • Determine and prepare commodity jurisdiction for the Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) vs. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS, Schedule B, Category Classification/USML) based upon the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and U.S. Customs Regulations
  • Prepare and manage classification matrix
  • Administer and monitor the restricted party screening
  • Assist with all logistics and customs related inquiries
  • Manage INCO Terms
  • Knowledge of AS9100D
  • Supervise Trade Compliance & Logistics personnel in NA
  • Work with brokers, agents and attorneys to resolve problems or issues.
  • Correspond with foreign customers to obtain documents and information necessary for import/export clearance formalities.
  • Obtain and provide all documentation and information from/to customers and regulatory agencies necessary for import / export clearance formalities and otherwise as required to ensure compliance with applicable import/export regulations.
  • Execute and maintain USMCA and Country of Origin.
  • Audit entry summaries from Customs Brokers for accuracy and compliance
  • Resolve errors found on entry summaries with brokers
  • Respond to inquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation, or other import/export related matters.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of import/export regulations through periodic seminars
  • Perform all recordkeeping practices as required by respective Government Customs Law as well as training, storage and destruction.
  • Conduct import/export training awareness classes
  • Perform other tasks as required
