About The Position

We are seeking a NDE/Welding Inspector to join our team supporting the Oak Ridge National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Responsibilities Report to the Fabrication Instrumentation & Inspection Division (FIID) Welding Services Program Manager. Perform work in both a shop and field environments and could be individual or working on a team. Knowledge of shop and field fabrication techniques, and a strong welding background is preferred. Work with minimal supervision and shall be responsible for: Nondestructive Examination (NDE)/welding examinations, testing and inspection of steam valves, pressure vessels, inspection of fixed ladders, piping components, structural assemblies and other fabrication assemblies as required for repair work and new construction/fabrication. Requirements Education & Years of Experience – High School Diploma and 5+ years of relevant experience. Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work. Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed. Must possess a current and valid American Welding Society certified welding inspector (CWI) certificate, ASNT SNT TC 1A level II liquid penetrant (PT) and visual inspection (VT) qualifications. Working knowledge of ASNT, ASME B31, AWS B2.1, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.6, AWS D9.1, & ASME boiler and pressure vessel codes/specs/standards. Must be able to produce isometric sketches for documentation purposes by hand or CAD. NOTE: Successful candidate will be required to pass a practical exam conducted by the ORNL NDE Level III program manager. Fall protection training and equipment will be provided by ORNL. Must have written and verbal communication and the ability to use basic office software (e.g. Word, Excel, time management software, etc.) and be able to make isometric sketches. Desired Skills ASNT SNT TC 1A Level II magnetic particle (MT) yoke inspection qualification is also preferred. Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing experience is preferred.
