About The Position

The Cardiac Sonographer is a highly skilled healthcare professional responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the heart, with a specialized focus on neonatal and fetal patients. This role requires advanced knowledge of pediatric and prenatal cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology, as well as proficiency in operating sophisticated echocardiographic equipment. The cardiac sonographer collaborates closely with pediatric cardiologists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, and other healthcare providers to acquire high-quality images that aid in the diagnosis and management of congenital heart conditions. The position demands precision, compassion, and the ability to work effectively in high-stress environments such as neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).

Requirements

  • Other Satisfactory completion of a formal Cardiovascular Technology training program in an AMA approved school and meets the requirement of an appropriate State and/or Federal mandated certification or equivalent.
  • 1 Year experience performing echocardiography procedures.
  • Experience performing echocardiography procedures on neonatal patients.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
  • Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) specialty from American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) - REQUIRED
  • Ability to independently perform neonatal echocardiograms according to department guidelines.
  • Knowledge of procedures on specific patient population.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 50 neonatal echocardiograms performed without supervision.
  • Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International -PREFERRED

  • Ensures cleanliness and adequate stocking in exam and work areas.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and is responsive to department staffing needs.
  • Attends and actively participates in departmental in-services and management meetings.
  • Monitors completion of assigned staff duties.
  • Monitors and evaluates exam quality and procedures.
  • Checks/completes patient name bands, physician orders, consent forms and prescriptions.
  • Follows department/hospital infection control guidelines.
  • Explains procedure to patient prior to exam.
  • Assures physical and psychological patient needs are met.
  • Initiates proper response to emergent situations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of patient care standards.
  • Understands and applies appropriate imaging techniques to achieve the highest quality study attainable.
  • Performs exams and positions according to department imaging, cardiac, or vascular ultrasound protocols.
  • Labels and identifies studies correctly using legal marker set.
  • Uses imaging equipment proficiently.
  • Uses imaging agents (contrast) according to protocol.
  • Performs routine and special procedure exams as assigned.
  • Submits completed safety test by scheduled deadline with 100% score.
  • Practices proper body mechanics 100% of the time.
  • Reports and corrects observed safety hazards immediately.
  • Reports any work related injury to self or staff immediately and completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Adheres to universal precautions.
