About The Position

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Network Administrator I to join our team in Houston, Texas. Job Summary: The Network Administrator provides hands-on operational work for network and Windows-based infrastructure supporting day-to-day operations and active project deployments. This role helps address ongoing workload demands, reduce risk to project timelines, and maintain stability across the staging lab, and project environments. The Network Administrator works closely with internal teams on Cisco-based network infrastructure and firewall connectivity, including environments using Palo Alto firewalls. Responsibilities include network configuration, troubleshooting, and system changes, as well as assisting with project-related work and environment builds as needed. This role involves a mix of day-to-day operational work and project support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong understanding of VLANs, routing, trunking, and basic switching concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with firewall configuration and VPN connectivity.
  • Experience supporting Windows Server (2016 or newer).
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell for basic administration and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server installations and connectivity requirements.
  • Experience operating in change-controlled environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Networking or Microsoft certifications (CCNA, Network+, MCSA, Azure Admin) a plus.
  • Exposure to virtualization platforms (VMware or Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with automation or scripting tools.
  • Experience supporting multi-tier application environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain Layer 2/3 network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, and VPN connectivity.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco networking hardware (Catalyst switches, ASA or equivalent).
  • Assist with firewall rule changes and IPsec tunnel configuration (Palo Alto experience a plus).
  • Support Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file/print services.
  • Deploy and support Windows-based servers for internal applications and project environments.
  • Participate in cross-layer troubleshooting involving networking, servers, and application connectivity.
  • Assist with lab and staging environment builds to support project delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure operational stability and timely issue resolution.
