About The Position

The Network Administrator is responsible for ensuring the administration and stable operation of the computer networks and servers. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, monitoring, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links related to the network and servers. This position is also responsible for ensuring network security, continuous connectivity, and monitoring network performance of the GSIL network and servers at all site locations.

Requirements

  • An A.S. or B.S. degree in computer science, data processing or related field is preferred but commensurate experience acceptable.
  • Three to five years of network, server administration, and Help Desk Support experience in a large office environment.
  • Proficient with current Microsoft Operating Systems, Active Directory, MS Office, VMware, Hyper-V, Veeam, and hardware support.
  • Operational knowledge of network infrastructure, network and routing protocols and switch configuration.
  • Ability to install software and hardware on networking equipment and computers. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple problems and tasks and function independently with minimal oversight and direction.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively internally and externally.
  • This role requires the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • This role is based on-site in Concord, NH and includes occasional travel to regional offices statewide. A valid driver's license and reliable, insured personal transportation are required; mileage is reimbursed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of servers and networks.
  • Monitor system health, logs, alerts, and backups.
  • Install and maintain servers and network operating systems and ensure backup copies of all files are routinely made and securely stored offsite.
  • Install, configure, and maintain networking equipment such as switches, firewalls, and UPS.
  • Diagnose problems with network equipment and perform equipment repair or upgrades when appropriate
  • Plan and execute OS upgrades and patching.
  • Manage security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems to keep data and communications protected.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Maintain system documentation and update as needed.
  • Monitor network and server functionality and computer systems to ensure performance is maintained and optimized.
  • Work with Manager of IT and Security to develop and enforce security policies and technical controls to protect systems and data.
  • Research and implement best practices around management, control and monitoring of network and server infrastructure.
  • Provide second level technical support to users concerning network system operations.
  • Identify and test for system weaknesses and implement measures to reduce risks and weaknesses.
  • Obtain continuous training and seek out knowledge to keep an eye out for needed updates and improvements.
  • Develop, test, and document disaster recovery plan/business resumption plan.
  • Cross train and serve as back-up to the Manager of IT as needed.
  • Assist with staff training and Help Desk tickets as needed.
  • Routinely visit all GSIL locations to ensure network and server hardware and software are being properly secured and utilized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in general GSIL events and activities.
  • Support and uphold GSIL policies and procedures, workplace regulations and safety practices.
