About The Position

Reporting to Manager, IT Operations, the Network Engineer 4 develops, plans, and implements projects and initiatives in the areas of network access and design. Acting as a senior technical resource for network technologies, they will work with the team, vendors, and partners to ensure a stable, reliable, and flexible communications infrastructure and help develop strategic initiatives and enhanced services based on business need and new technologies.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science or engineering is required. Alternatively, and additional 4 years (14 years total) of highly relevant full-time working experience may be considered in lieu of a 4-year degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of full-time, relevant working experience in network design and support including LANs, WANs, and wireless is required.
  • Network protocols (BGP, MPLS, VPN, OSPF, TCP/IP, STP, etc.).
  • Authentication / authorization technologies (802.1x, NAC) and ACLs. Specifically, Aruba ClearPass.
  • VPN technology (site to site, IPSEC, always on VPN clients, etc.).
  • Experience with all levels of network hardware. Specifically, Aruba switches/routers, and Fortinet firewalls.
  • Supporting and working with environments supported by service providers.
  • Design and support of VOIP systems or QoS/CoS.
  • Demonstrated technical documentation ability.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and skills to communicate effectively with internal departments.
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

  • Working in a highly-regulated industry.
  • Certifications in relevant areas (Fortinet, Aruba, others).
  • Linux Support and Administration.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and administers core networking devices including firewalls, switches, routers, wireless controllers and access points.
  • Maintains and administers various wide area and local area networks to ensure correct functionality and configuration.
  • Maintains and administers VOIP phone systems and networks.
  • Is the primary point of contact for vendors and partners on network related issues, products, and services.
  • Performs periodic network inventory and configuration audit tasks.
  • Leads IT projects and works them to completion.
  • Schedules and coordinates network hardware maintenance windows with support personnel.
  • Remote support and on-call hours may be required on a rotational basis.
  • Maintains and implements the processes, policies, and procedures that deal with network services and equipment.
  • Researches and tests new and emerging systems and network technologies; makes recommendations to the Operations Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
