About The Position

The N.C. Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) serves as the Technology Center for the State of NC. Services that NCDIT provides reach a client base of state and local government agencies, as well as schools, colleges and universities. NCDIT’s mission is to enable trusted business-driven solutions that meet the needs of North Carolinians. NCDIT provides technology services to state agencies and is charged with closing the digital divide by expanding availability of broadband services and promoting the adoption of affordable, high-speed internet. Salary Range: $91,600 - $160,299 Are you ready to take the next step in your career? We currently have an opening for a Network Manager I This vacancy is open to current North Carolina state government and current UNC System employees only or previous NC state government and UNC System employees with unexpired RIF priority re-employment rights. Current temporary employees working in NC state government or in the UNC System will also be considered. The Network Manager I supervises and directs the activities of the NCDOT IT Network Services team, establishing rules, standards, guidelines, and policies governing the work process. Note: Standard hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, plus additional hours as needed. This position may require statewide travel and overnight stays to conduct on-site surveys, attend site validation activities and meetings, and support project implementation efforts at remote locations. The Network Services Team provides reliable, cost effective, and secure network services that meet business requirements. Within this team, the Network Field Services function provides field-based network support for NCDOT sites statewide, including DMV offices and other facilities. This function supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of network infrastructure and related equipment at approximately 500 sites across North Carolina.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in telecommunications network management, analysis, or design OR Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in telecommunications network management, analysis, or design OR High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight years of progressive experience in telecommunications network management, analysis, or design; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, and software systems to effectively lead technical staff
  • Demonstrated experience with ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow), CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ITIL for incident and change management to minimize disruption

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Layer 1 and Layer 2 field infrastructure and devices, including voice and data cabling, Cat6 and fiber optic cabling, network switches, Cisco switches, and firewalls
  • Work directly with the Firewall Team, Network Management Team, and VoIP Team to coordinate and provide field network support for all teams, ensuring services are installed, maintained, and functioning properly to support agency operations
  • Oversees all projects within the IT Network Services domain
  • Participates in and may manage various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the infrastructure, such as evaluation of new solutions and technologies required to meet a business need or to make a process more cost-effective
  • Proactively researches and locates the necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends as they develop
  • Responsible for implementing and adhering to requirements of the Information Security Office and protecting data from unauthorized access, alteration, destruction, or usage in a manner inconsistent with covered security policies and standards
