About The Position

Network Systems Administrator I: The position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all communication systems. Deliver excellent customer service while providing network and desktop support to over 500 devices and 235 users. This includes the Windows network infrastructure, including Exchange e-mail and Office 365 apps, internet connectivity, personal computers, printers, and a wide variety of hardware, software, and operating systems needed: cellular and land-line telephones; copiers, scanners, faxes, and audio-visual systems. Administer network firewall, routers, and switches. Researches, assesses and makes recommendations for current and future system enhancements. Network Systems Administrator II: The position will assist the Information Systems Director in analyzing the tribal needs for software upgrades or new purchases in the Department. Assists the Information Systems Director in developing Tribal computer programs. Provide introductory training for tribal departments and new users, and provide continual training for current users. Generate reports to supervisors as requested. Assist Information Systems Director with budgeting for the department. This position may supervise the IT User Support Technician I or II positions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies or related field - OR - an equivalent combination of education and/or experience; one year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • TL 125: After two years of satisfactory experience as a Network Systems Administrator I and recommendation from the Information Systems Director, employee will be eligible to transfer to the Network Systems Administrator II position.
  • Employee may be assigned a supervisory role within the IS Department over the IT User Support Tech I or II positions.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Assisting customers in a networked office environment and managing projects and skills to perform the duties and responsibilities below.
  • Current technological knowledge and be able to remain current throughout employment through network, training, and certification.
  • Computer operations, software applications, network fundamentals, and data process equipment.
  • Experience in:
  • Providing excellent customer service, communication (verbal and written), organization, time management/prioritization, project management, and attention to detail.
  • Following oral and written instruction.
  • Other:
  • Must be able to travel to tribal area offices and work outside normal working hours as needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, insurance and be eligible to drive a GSA vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a friendly and knowledgeable presence for the Information Technology (IT) Department.
  • Use excellent customer service skills and good judgment when responding to inquiries from internal customers.
  • Escalate matters as needed.
  • Deliver excellent customer service while providing technical support to users regarding the various network services and software applications.
  • Provide support for MS Office and other office automation software.
  • Answer technical questions from employees. This includes travel to all work sites as needed.
  • Perform system administration tasks on Windows network systems, desktop operating systems, Exchange email and Internet connectivity.
  • Perform system and data backup and retrieval.
  • Maintain and configure network infrastructure.
  • Integrate new technologies into existing network infrastructure as needed.
  • Consistently analyze, monitor and evaluate network and systems performance, including printing, file sharing and e-mail services.
  • Perform routine audits of systems and software through remote access software.
  • Ensure the network infrastructure remains in an operational state with high availability.
  • Design, monitor, enhance and enforce security guidelines and IT policies & procedures.
  • This includes setting spam and content filters and monitoring e-mail as training and educating employees in how to avoid infiltration by viruses, worms, etc.
  • Administer anti-virus software.
  • Install and configure system software, networking software and application software.
  • Monitor software usage and ensure consistency with licensing.
  • Maintain software and licensing inventory.
  • Plan, design, evaluate, procure and install software and hardware upgrades, reconfiguration and patches where needed to optimize performance.
  • Manage all information technology purchases throughout the organization.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on technology infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, network and connectivity problems.
  • Analyze and resolves software problems.
  • Identify, recommend and assist with new technology and automation research, development and adoption.
  • This includes always looking for ways to improve efficiency, quality and service to Tribal employees.
  • May supervise the IT User Support Technician I / II positions.
