JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Network Technician serves as a core member of the IT Infrastructure team, reporting to the Director of IT Infrastructure Services. This role involves close collaboration with Engineers and student workers to ensure the robust operation and continuous enhancement of the University's networks and telecommunication systems. Responsibilities include the physical installation, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a wide range of IT infrastructure—from cabling and device installation to configuring VoIP endpoints. The Network Technician actively monitors and responds to service requests, resolves complex network issues, contributes to strategic projects, and participates in an on-call rotation. This position also involves guiding student workers and proactively engaging in professional development to continually enhance departmental expertise and effectiveness. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least six (6) months of relevant work experience as a network technician or similar role or complex home-lab experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • This position requires a criminal background check, which will include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.
  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a similar role.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification
  • CompTIA Network+ certification

Responsibilities

  • Respond to service requests and incidents submitted by users and/or help desk staff, ensuring timely resolution of network-related issues.
  • Utilizes various network monitoring tools to observe network performance, respond to alerts, and resolve network-related problems.
  • Participates in weekly on-call rotation schedules to provide after-hours support for critical issues.
  • Performs hands-on physical installation, deployment, maintenance, and upgrades of network infrastructure components, including but not limited to low-voltage cabling, cameras, wireless access points, network switches, battery backups (UPS), and servers.
  • Assists with the configuration and troubleshooting of voice over IP (VoIP) endpoints, including SIP-based phones and Microsoft Teams Calling devices.
  • Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation for network systems, configurations, and installations.
  • Collaborates with and guides student workers, ensuring their effective assistance and proper execution of tasks during projects and daily operations.
  • Proactively pursues opportunities to learn new systems and technologies, shares knowledge, and collaborates with team members to continually enhance departmental expertise and effectiveness.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned to support department and University objectives.
