About The Position

The Night Campus Service Worker, under the supervision of Campus Services Supervisor, provides a variety of support services to maintain the interior appearance of campus dormitories, athletic facilities, academic, administration buildings and the surrounding exterior appearance of the grounds. This work involves adhering to established standard procedures, techniques, and safety requirements with some judgment required to interpret instructions. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 0-6 months directly related experience (Preference may be given to candidates with greater amounts of directly related experience)
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
  • Ability to read and write in English and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to rapidly learn custodial, grounds keeping, and labor methods, procedures, and safety principles.
  • Ability to operate all related labor supporting equipment, basic grounds keeping equipment, and commercial custodial equipment.
  • Ability to work on ladders.
  • Physical capability to perform duties of the position including long periods of standing and walking, bending, stooping, and climbing, and lifting of heavy items weighing approximately 50 to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals (i.e. cleaning solutions), and variations in indoor temperatures and outside weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Ability how to operate powered custodial equipment.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and carry items as necessary.
  • Ability to learn how to apply custodial products (cleaners, surface finishes, and disinfectants).
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage time and resources effectively.
  • Ability to operate a computer and accurately enter information.
  • Lifting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping daily.
  • Work requires eye/hand coordination in the operation of commercial custodial equipment, basic ground keeping equipment & labor supporting equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and maintains the interior appearance of residence halls, academic buildings, auxiliary buildings, and public areas, utilizing brooms, mops, rags, brushes, and powered scrubbing, buffing, and waxing machines.
  • Cleans and disinfects bathrooms including walls, floors, lavatories, commodes, sinks, fixtures, mirrors, etc.
  • Replenishes supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpets, rugs, and upholstery using commercial vacuum cleaners and shampooers.
  • Dust and polish furniture, desks, tabletops, file cabinets, bookcases, and related woodwork.
  • Daily trash and waste removal and transportation to prevent buildup and/or odor, maintain area around disposal sites.
  • Mix, dilute, and use commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents, and other stringent cleaning solutions following established safety procedures. Calculate area to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required.
  • Completes daily walk-throughs and completes checklist(s) that is checked daily.
  • Operates walk-behind and/or riding scrubbers, high-speed burnishers, etc. Mixes and dilutes commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents, and other stringent cleaning solutions. Calculates area to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required. Follows established safety procedures in the use of equipment and materials; locking and unlocking doors, offices, and meeting rooms as directed by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for timely data entry related to leave request, tracking personal information, reviewing balances, and maintaining positive leave credit balances. In accordance with the information incumbent is responsible for overall accuracy and adhering to University Policies related to leave request approvals, documentation up to and including proper use of
  • Move, set up, rearrange, assemble, or disassemble desks, tables, chairs, displays and other related equipment using a dolly, hand cart, or physically lifting objects.
  • Preform set-ups or rearrangement, of tables, chairs, and other equipment for special events.
  • Carry out light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, changing air filters, unstopping drains, sinks and toilets, replacing caulking, patching holes in walls, replacing ceiling tiles, and painting.
  • Cleans and maintains the surrounding exterior appearance of all facilities. This will include picking up trash and other debris around the buildings. This may also include raking, removing, and disposing of leaves and debris; cleaning gutters and drainage areas; sweeping, shoveling, and removing snow, ice, slush, and mud from entryways and sidewalks; spreading salt on public walkways.
  • Remove graffiti from walls and sidewalks.
  • May be required to operate blowers, walk-behind sweepers, or any other equipment needed to perform duties listed above.
  • May be required to operate various hand and power tools in the performance of duties such as rakes, shovels, dollies, hand trucks, lawn mowers, weed eaters, Paint, patch interior walls etc.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections as well as Room Condition Reports of all buildings each semester.
  • Submits work order requests
  • Attend training classes, seminars, and other meetings to learn new techniques and procedures and to remain current in all safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
