About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Nuclear Engineering Intern to join our Oak Ridge, TN office. YOUR ROLE Assist with technical reviews of nuclear production chemistry documentation, process descriptions, and supporting analyses, summarizing observations and questions in review notes or memoranda. Attend technical and operational meetings, take detailed notes, and document key discussions, assumptions, and decisions related to nuclear chemistry, process controls, or compliance considerations. Conduct basic technical analyses and calculations to support evaluation of nuclear fuel cycle chemistry, material balances, or process performance under guidance from senior engineers. Support regulatory and licensing compliance activities by reviewing applicable requirements, licenses, standards, and procedures, and assisting senior staff with documentation, tracking, and implementation Support cost and resource evaluations by researching consumables, reagents, and equipment relevant to fuel cycle operations based on defined specifications. Assist with document preparation and control, including procedures, technical memoranda, schedules, meeting minutes, and presentation materials in accordance with quality and compliance requirements. Perform data collection and analysis to support assessments of alternative process approaches, chemistry conditions, operating parameters, site constraints, and applicable regulatory or standards-based requirements. Assist in preparing technical input for reports, compliance documentation, or permit-related materials, including gathering reference information, drafting outlines or sections, and supporting graphical or tabular presentations.

Requirements

  • No experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field.
  • Must have completed 85 hours towards a nuclear engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2026).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of chemistry principles with the ability to support assessment of production-related chemistry; willingness to learn
  • Basic understanding of regulatory compliance requirements and applicable ASTM standards relevant to nuclear fuel cycle operations; willingness to learn

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks (preferred)
