The Educator uses the educational design process to close the knowledge, skills, and/or practice gaps identified through needs assessment and to impact evidence-based practice. The Educator is a nurse who, through clinical experience, study and supervised practice in patient care at the masters or BSN level, has gained expertise in a specific specialty area of patient care services. Demonstrates the advanced knowledge and skills required for specialty nursing. Responsible and accountable for the development and application of specialty practice standards, staff development, regulatory compliance and research to enhance the quality of care to the patient and the patient’s family. Demonstrated clinical competence and in depth knowledge in specialty area. Creates a collegial and collaborative environment among all members of the healthcare team. Demonstrated effective leadership, teaching, research and communication skills. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for decisions. Utilizes problem-solving and decision-making skills. Coaches and mentors staff. Researches and develops specialty specific practice standards and communicates them to other staff in their area of specialty. Ability to identify problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to improve job performance through continuing education.
