About The Position

NURSEMANAGER/EDUCATOR, Medical Surgical, Telemetry, Intensive and Intermediate Care Units. Exempt, Administrative. Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Senior Nursing Officer and according to established policies/procedures the Educator plans, coordinates, provides patient education and staff clinical educational opportunities in the departments. Works with other nursing and ancillary personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice. Performs duties related to direct patient care as described for Staff Registered Nurse and at all levels of care within assigned departments (Medical Surgical, Telemetry, Intensive and Intermediate Care). Performs other duties of the department as required.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in Nursing (will consider work in progress)
Current NC (or within 30 days of hire) or multistate RN licensure required.
Minimum of five years of current, relevant clinical experience in Intensive Care Unit patient care; will consider other applicable clinical areas in lieu of Intensive Care Unit experience.
Demonstrated performance in position(s) requiring advanced clinical skills and educational expertise.
The employee must have the ability to understand, communicate and react effectively to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
BLS required
ACLS required or obtained within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

Develops and plans program goals and objectives based on an annual needs assessment and on management directives.
Serves as a resource with respect to patient education and nursing practice policies, procedures, concepts, methods, and problem-solving techniques.
Expands patient and nursing staff education knowledge base by assisting in organizing and updating available publications, periodicals, videotapes and other educational materials.
Stays knowledgeable of patient education and nursing training and development practices.
Provides input into product evaluation and policy/procedure development.
Evaluates patient care outcomes for selected patients.
Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team.
Documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments and other care given.
Assists in the orientation of new personnel and provides continuing education for existing staff.
Performs special projects and administrative support assignments, as needed.
Maintains skill competence and assumes responsibility for professional development and on-going education.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Performs miscellaneous duties, as needed.
