At Cedars-Sinai Pain Center, we focus on improving life quality for individuals with acute, chronic, and cancer pain. We also support patients with facial disorders and diseases. Inpatient pain services deliver multidisciplinary care for acute postoperative, chronic, or complex pain. The aim is to improve function, mobility, and overall quality of life. These services often take place in hospital or rehab environments. They include medication management, therapy, and interventional procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Applies evidence-based multimodal and interventional pain strategies.
  • Aims to lessen pain, improve patient satisfaction, reduce hospital stays, and provide ongoing education.
  • Evaluation and medical management for admitted peri-operative and non-perioperative patients.
  • Discharge recommendations 24-48 hours prior to discharge.
  • Daily evaluations and recommendations as needed.
  • Responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intra departmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management.
  • Grasp the complexities of acute and chronic pain in the peri-operative environment.
  • Assess and evaluate patients in order to synthesize an adequate pain regimen including interventional plan management procedures, in the context of psychological, physiologic and social factors.
  • Demonstrate adaptability in various health care environments, including the peri-operative setting.
  • Understand the pharmacology of narcotics and other medications in relation to their physiologic consequences.
  • Serve as a patient advocate throughout the care process and represent the medical center at regional and national meetings/conferences.
  • Identify safety concerns and implement measures to ensure a safe environment.
  • Provide appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients.
  • Consider developmental achievements of the population served.
