About The Position

The Occupational Therapist I job conducts evaluations on referred patients. To plan and implement a comprehensive treatment program that includes discharge planning, patient/family education, and recommendations for follow-up or continued care. This position documents results of the OT evaluation and services provided in accordance with hospital and department guidelines. The Occupational Therapist I job participates as a member of a self-directed departmental team as well as a member of an interdisciplinary patient care team. This role provides clinical instruction to OT and OTA students as needed. This role also provides training and education to department and hospital staff.

Requirements

  • Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist
  • Completion of licensing requirements for new graduates within 1 year of graduation
  • Maintenance of licensure once granted
  • Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area
  • New graduate to up to 2 years of work experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Employee is expected to progress to an Occupational Therapist Clinician II level within two years of employment as an Occupational Therapist at VCUHS
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy
  • Evaluation and treatment of patients with routine diagnoses
  • Setting schedule and managing time
  • Reporting in interdisciplinary rounds
  • Goal setting for routine diagnoses
  • Completion of routine documentation
  • Interaction with the interdisciplinary team and self-directed work team
  • Customer interaction
  • Occupational Therapist provides supervision for Rehab Technicians, COTA staff, volunteers and students doing clinical rotations
