About The Position

Operation Breakthrough is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that helps children who are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment. Operation Breakthrough strives to support and empower children, parents, and families through advocacy, referral services and emergency aid. The Occupational Therapist utilizes leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to offer assistance for children enrolled at Operation Breakthrough going through physical, mental, developmental, and/or emotional difficulties. This includes responding to staff referrals, creating treatment plans, helping child reach individual goals, and educating teachers on way to support teaching staff with occupational therapy goals. The Occupational Therapist will monitor an Occupational Assistant and Occupational Therapy Students. These services are designed to help children meet their educational goals and support Kindergarten readiness.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of occupational therapy and ability to implement these techniques.
  • Ability to monitor an Occupational Therapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy students.
  • Ability to educate and assist Early Education Staff to implement techniques to help children succeed in the classroom.
  • Comply with professional policies, standards and local, state and federal rules.
  • Utilization of ethical, evidence-based methods, procedures, and practices concerning the assessment and treatment of physical, mental, developmental, and/or emotional difficulties.
  • Knowledge and compliance of professional policies, standards and local, state. And federal laws and regulations governing the practice of Occupational Therapy as well as local school district policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with children ages 6 weeks to 13 years of age.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Understanding of HIPAA compliance.
  • Ability to move and lift up to 45lbs.
  • Basic understanding the negative impacts associated with prolonged, chronic exposure to trauma and poverty.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts educational materials and equipment for the purpose of providing intervention and/or meeting the individual student’s needs.
  • Assists in facilitating meetings/communications between therapist, site staff, parents, etc. for the purpose of developing plans and/or providing information regarding students’ goals.
  • Collects data on student achievements for the purpose of documenting activities, preparing reports and/or attending IEP meetings.
  • Knowledge of IEP requirements and ability to write reports appropriate for IEP referrals.
  • Consults with Operation Breakthrough personnel for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services.
  • Implements the service delivery model most appropriate to the students’ degree of severity.
  • Participates in parent/teacher meetings, in-service trainings and/or research projects for the purpose of receiving or conveying information related to job responsibilities.
  • Researches resources and methods for the purpose of addressing students' functional goals.
  • Maintain consistent and effective communication with OB’s Disabilities Manager regarding referral and data tracking as well as service provisions.
