About The Position

Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. (OPT) provides intelligent maritime solutions and services that enable safer, cleaner, and more productive ocean operations for the defense and security, oil and gas, science and research, and offshore wind markets, including Merrows™, which provides AI-capable seamless integration of Maritime Domain Awareness Systems across platforms. Our PowerBuoy® platforms provide clean and reliable electric power and real-time data communications for remote maritime and subsea applications. We also provide WAM-V® unmanned surface vehicles (USV’s) and marine robotics services. The Company’s headquarters is located in Monroe Township, New Jersey with an additional office in Richmond, California. The Role: The Ocean Engineering Intern will support the engineering team in the naval architecture design and analysis of OPT products and systems.

Requirements

Junior or Senior status in a 4-year university pursuing an Engineering degree.
Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Coursework in naval architecture, ocean engineering or related topics.
Interest in learning about wave, solar and wind-based energy systems.
Must be a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

Experience with MATLAB and SolidWorks a plus.

Responsibilities

Assist in the design and analysis of OPT’s products that use wave, solar and/or wind power to support ocean-based systems.
Carry out theoretical hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, and mooring analyses using commercial software.
Prepare and document design specifications, data collection and analysis.
Prepare technical reports to document the methodology and results of work performed.
Assist with departmental documentation and administrative projects.
Perform other tasks as required.
