The Office Nurse (RN) is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality care to the patients in accordance with individual needs, physician orders and standards of care, as represented through the patient care policies. Provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients. Assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care, implements and evaluates the care delivered. The Registered Nurse is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence. The position supports providers daily by performing clinical administrative duties within their scope of practice such as order entry, managing lab results, scheduling appointments, and coordinating care. RN role provides a wide range of clinical support duties and is an integral part of the medical care team. The RN independently performs clinical, administrative, and technical functions that are critical with the department of Gastroenterology. Conducts phone triage, coordinates patient flow and develops plan of care. Provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients using evidence-based decision making. This role also acts as a liaison between post-procedure outpatient needs & provider supported intervention, including triage of urgent or emergent post-procedure complications. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical records (EHR). Documents data (i.e. vital signs, weights, chief complaints) on patients’ chart to communicate with health team members. Contacts patients with lab/ diagnostic imaging results and documents phone calls. Obtains specimens and performs laboratory work and documents data in patients’ charts, performs injections on patients and assists the physician with diagnostic procedures and treatments in the clinic as needed. Provides patient education as appropriate to situation. Delegates and supervises tasks consistent with other caregivers’ scope of practice, adhering to all standards, regulations, and expectations. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, implementation planning and evaluation to deliver care to patients. Conducts prior authorizations for medications. Maintains database of patients on biological therapy and pursues appropriate follow up interventions for patients. Scheduling patients for appointments and assisting patients in navigating consults. Performs nurse visits for education, injection therapy, and diagnostic testing like pill cam, etc. Promotes accident prevention and reports potential hazards to maintain a safe environment. Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job: Obtains coverage for shift in event of illness or absence. Prepare exam rooms .
