About The Position

The primary purpose of the Ombudsman Elder Rights Specialist is to compile, record and document data related to the Long Term Ombudsman Program. Their contributions support and augment the work of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the Programs as mandated by the Older American Act. The Ombudsman Elder Rights Specialist (OERS) is responsible for the oversight and operation of the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program's database known as NORS Next. It contains the confidential information regarding complaints and concerns filed by residents, family members and the public with the Program. The OERS will conduct weekly reviews of the information entered by certified and designated ombudsmen representatives at both the state and regional levels. The OERS will be expected to train and provide on-boarding instructions and support for all new users in addition to providing updates and refresher training for current users. The OERS will serve as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting and system navigation concerns. They will also develop and conduct quarterly training for regional ombudsmen. The OERS in conjunction with the State Long Term Care Ombudsman will be responsible for compiling and creating the Annual Report submitted to our federal funding agency. The OERS will also prepare other state required and special request documents on an as needed basis. This individual will be part of a three person team that works collaboratively to carry out the daily duties and responsibilities related to the Program. These activities include daily contact with the public and regional ombudsmen providing technical assistance, guidance and monitoring of service provision. The OERS will report to the State Long Term Care Ombudsman. The OERS will also work closely with representatives from DHHS' IT Department for updates, enhancements and technical changes to NORS Next.

Requirements

  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven track record in providing high quality customer service and/or information and referral services
  • Experience in conducting training for large and small groups
  • Familiarity or experience in basic database integration, configuration and terminology
  • Demonstrated experience working with older adults, the aging network, or organizations that serve disabled and vulnerable populations
