ABOUT THE COMPANY Samueli Academy is a non-profit 7-12 public charter school in Santa Ana, CA. Its mission is to ignite the passion within all students to reach their greatest potential through a nurturing and innovative learning environment. Samueli Academy offers youth an innovative and student-centered choice for their education. This includes on-site housing for foster youth who need a stable living environment in order for them to excel academically. JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: On-Call Substitute Teacher Employment Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Seasonal, Certificated Reports to: Office Manager Position Summary: The Samueli Academy Substitute Teacher has the opportunity to supervise and support students in their classes by following the lessons left by the teacher. Candidates must possess the ability to supervise and care for students from 7th to 12th grade while maintaining a structured, safe, and educational environment.
Requirements
- Valid 30-Day Substitute Teacher Permit or Valid California Teaching Credential required.
- Prior experience working with middle/high school age children.
- Must be a minimum of twenty-one years old.
- If applicable, possess a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
- Position requires DMV clearance.
- Pre-employment screenings include criminal background check, FBI/DOJ fingerprinting, TB test, drug screen, and previous employment verification.
- Understanding of and passion for the Academy’s mission, vision, values.
- Possess the belief that all students, regardless of their economic or social demographics, deserve a quality education.
- Must have a heart for students that transcends the classroom.
- Committed to creating a loving, supportive, and equitable community of learning.
- A willingness to explore team teaching with other teachers.
- Ability to remain flexible, innovative, and adaptive to change.
Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans left by teacher.
- Maintain proper health and safety procedures on campus.
- Model professional behavior and attire.
- Model and implement positive reinforcement tools to assist in behavior modification.
- Assist with general housekeeping tasks, including sanitizing high-touch areas, organizing the classroom, etc.
- Communicate professionally and timely with staff supervisors.
- Follow and apply Samueli Academy policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
