About The Position

The Oncology Nurse provides professional nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Associate Degree Nursing
  • Must complete BSN within 5 years of hire
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing
  • Registered Nurse license required for state the clinic is located in, at the time of hire (Kansas or Missouri).
  • Must obtain additional state license, to possess both Kansas and Missouri licensing within 6 months of hire.
  • Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 are required to obtain a multistate RN license from the state in which they live at the time of their next RN license renewal by 3/31/2026.

  • 1 or more years oncology experience
  • Chemo Certification - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Certification preferred for Infusion/Treatment departments

Responsibilities

  • Collects and analyzes comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation to determine the diagnosis or issues.
  • Performs primary and secondary patient assessments and documents in the medical record accurately and timely.
  • Documents changes and omissions of the identified plan.
  • Communicates systematic report to other care providers.
  • Coordinates care delivery; utilizes resources to promote the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in all aspects of IV therapy and hydration
  • Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.
  • Evaluates and documents progress toward the attainment of outcomes.
  • Identifies expected interventions and outcomes for an individualized plan of care and communicates effectively with patient, family and other team members.
  • Implements the plan of care in a safe, timely and appropriate manner.
  • Manages patient care based on knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and side effects of such treatment.
  • Uses quality and evidence based practice to deliver and improve care.
  • Works closely with more experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision.
  • Infusion/Treatment Depts: demonstrates knowledge and skills in chemotherapy/biotherapy and blood products.
  • Radiation Oncology Depts: demonstrates knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures, including side effect and symptom managment.
  • Demonstrates ability to triage patients and coordinate with provider to ensure care needs are met.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
