About The Position

The University of Texas at Arlington (“UTA”) is pleased to announce a cluster hiring initiative for three tenured and tenure-track faculty positions across mid- and established-career stages to advance the university’s growing research enterprise in large-scale precision medicine, clinical AI, and genomics. This cluster forms a cornerstone of UTA’s RISE 100 initiative and its strategic expansion in Precision Health and translational health sciences. Position Overview UTA is launching a transformative, interdisciplinary cluster hire in AI-enabled precision medicine within UTA’s Center for Innovation in Health Informatics. This initiative integrates innovative programs in health-system–scale genome-informed care; clinical natural language processing and large language models for clinical data capture and communication; and hospital-grade AI implementation frameworks and system architecture into a unified translational ecosystem. This effort is conducted through a deep strategic partnership with Cook Children’s Health Care System, one of the nation’s largest pediatric health systems. Through collaboration with the Research IT team at Cook Children’s, faculty members will have access to enterprise-scale clinical data, EHR -integrated research platforms, production-adjacent AI infrastructure, diverse pediatric cohorts, and real-world clinical workflows that enable rapid translation from genomic insights through language intelligence to live clinical deployment. Investigators with translational research programs spanning one or more stages of a comprehensive clinical discovery-to-deployment platform are strongly encouraged to apply. This integrated pipeline spans: continuous clinical genomic data re-analysis → massive parallel clinical biomarker postprocessing → clinical NLP and LLM tool development (history-taking, visit summarization, and clinician–patient communication) → AI integration frameworks, EHR adapters, and orchestration layers → validation, monitoring, governance, and safety → real-world clinical deployment, longitudinal evaluation, and continuous improvement. Each stage embeds big data science and implementation science at scale, regulatory readiness, bias mitigation, equity considerations, and measurable patient outcomes from inception. The appointed faculty will hold a primary appointment in the College of Engineering while being embedded in the Center for Innovation in Health Informatics, with a secondary appointment at Cook Children’s Health Care System. Successful candidates will be expected to build and lead independent, externally funded research programs and to contribute to the broader academic mission of UTA , including research, teaching, mentorship of graduate students and clinical trainees, and service. Competitive startup packages, dedicated research personnel, access to high-performance computing, enterprise clinical datasets, and strong health-system partnerships provide an exceptional environment for faculty seeking to build nationally recognized programs at the intersection of precision genomics, clinical language intelligence, and AI-driven healthcare implementation. https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/engineering/research
