About The Position

This position includes direct clinical care, teaching, supervision, and program development duties, with a focus on providing integrated behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and their families who are seen in the Children’s Hospital Colorado Pediatric Headache Program and the Child Neurology Clinic. The psychologist in this role will be part of the Pediatric Mental Health Institute Section of Integrated Services. This is an open-ranked faculty position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience (Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor).
  • 4-7 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience (Associate Professor).
  • 7+ years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience (Professor).
  • Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD from an APA-accredited program.
  • Must have prior experience in a pediatric health psychology setting.
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of developmentally and diagnostically appropriate screening and assessment tools.
  • Demonstrated skills using evidence-based treatment models including but not limited to motivational interviewing strategies, consultation models, and flexible application of cognitive-behavioral therapies to address medical and mental health concerns
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team model and with medical providers, psychosocial providers, trainees, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team and with colleagues, medical specialists, and trainees
  • Clinical skill is required for conducting brief and targeted assessments, consultations, and interventions in integrated healthcare settings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clinical information-sharing, training and supervision, and presentations/education to community and medical audiences
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks and maintain a well-organized work environment
  • Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations
  • Experience supervising psychology trainees and educating medical trainees/colleagues

  • Experience working with pediatric populations with medical complexity, pain, and/or neurological conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide integrated behavioral health services across medical ambulatory clinics, multidisciplinary clinics, and/or hospital inpatient settings for the Children’s Hospital Colorado Neurology Program. A particular focus will be on pediatric headache, with potential opportunities in other neurology subspecialties.
  • Consult with pediatric medical teams around addressing behavioral health and psychosocial factors that impact child well-being including pain coping, functioning/adjustment to medical diagnosis and treatment, adherence, mental health, behavioral, developmental, and family factors.
  • Deliver individual, family, and group-based services for patients seen in the Pediatric Headache Program.
  • Collaborate with medical teams, allied health professionals, and psychosocial partners including social work, family navigators, and community health liaisons to deliver comprehensive, team-based care.
  • Use evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches for children and adolescents presenting with neurological conditions (primarily headache), as well as behavioral, developmental, and mental health concerns.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating integrated behavioral health programming in the Children’s Hospital Colorado Neurology Clinic.
  • Engage in teaching, supervision, and scholarship, including collaboration on grants and contracts with hospital and community partners.
