About The Position

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as an Open Rank Professor and Assistant Director of Academic Affairs. This dual-role position is designed to support the academic mission of the College while contributing to the education and training of future dental professionals. The successful candidate will split their responsibilities equally between academic affairs (50%) and teaching (50%), with a focus on pre-clinical simulation and didactic courses.

Requirements

  • Dental Degree (DDS, DMD, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience in a dental school setting.
  • Experience in curriculum development, including design, implementation, and assessment.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in a dental specialty or education.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards for dental education programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Expertise in pre-clinical simulation techniques and technologies.
  • Ability to design engaging didactic course content.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing academic affairs responsibilities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, faculty, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to oversee curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Assist in the management and coordination of academic programs, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and institutional goals.
  • Participate in faculty development initiatives to enhance teaching effectiveness and curriculum delivery.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to faculty members regarding academic policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to strategic planning efforts for the College’s academic programs.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction in pre-clinical simulation courses, fostering hands-on learning experiences for dental students in the Department of General Dentistry.
  • Teach didactic courses, ensuring course content aligns with current dental practices and evidence-based methodologies.
  • Develop innovative teaching materials, including lectures, assessments, and simulations, to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Provide individualized feedback and support to students to promote their academic success.
  • Stay current with advancements in dental education and integrate new techniques into teaching practices.
