About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the OR manager/charge/circulating RN, assist in transporting patients to and from the operating room. Assists in moving patients on and off or tables at beginning and end of surgery, assists staff as needed with turning, lifting, holding and positioning of patients. To perform job functions within the Operating Room in a manner which promotes the safety and health of the worker, coworkers, patients, and visitors to Boston Medical Center-Brighton. Position: OR Assistant Department: Operating Room Schedule: Full Time Days ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Responsibilities / Essential Functions Room set up with basic equipment including but not limited to OR table, ESU / Neptune, mayo stands, back table in ready to go condition Room turnover by washing and cleaning with appropriate disinfectant; OR lights, be, and all surfaces per approved process including floors. Removing trash and soiled linen; placing all in appropriate receptacles, remaking OR beds, relining trash, linen, and biohazard containers with appropriate liners. Assist room staff with equipment needs including but not limited to switching out various procedure tables, and gathering additional case-specific equipment. Cleans and reassembles the operating room after each procedure is complete. Disposes of linen and trash properly. Remakes patient stretchers, and keeps hallways clear of unnecessary equipment. Stocking: all warmers with appropriately dated fluids, blanket warmers, and weekly supply orders. Transport/assist with the transport of patients from floor to Operating Room. Obtains patient beds from floors and ICU. Is familiar with and uses aseptic techniques in the cleaning of all equipment and all areas of the Operating Room. Wears proper attire as appropriate. Attends and participates in formal / informal training programs as appropriate or directed. Attends and participates in staff / unit meetings, and educational programs. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • BLS Required
  • Able to read and write English.
  • Able to manage personal interactions and maintain good working relationships with surgeons and other employees
  • Learning abilities sufficient to add new skills and participate productively with OR team.
  • Personal maturity sufficient to teach others and interact with healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to calculate and complete weekly inventory and data.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team providing excellent specialized care to patients.
