About The Position

Responsible for coordinating activities of personnel in the operating room according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the facility. Participates in planning work of assigned areas and coordinates activities with other patient-care areas. Ensures that patient needs are met. Works closely with manager in coordinating patient-care service functions.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • Registered Nurse with active license in the state of Kentucky
  • CPR, ACLS and PALS certification
  • Evidence of leadership qualities
  • Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal and telephone communication

  • Supports the facility’s ideology, mission, goals, and objectives
  • Performs in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures

  • Maintains facility and equipment to ensure cleanliness, sterility, and operational ability at all times, reports deficiencies to manager
  • Reports discrepancies in services provided by contracted providers (e.g., pathology, radiology, housekeeping) to manager
  • Supports positive leadership role; leads team by example; promotes professionalism in all communications and activities
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
  • Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner
  • Promotes effective communication between the clinical areas and the business office and physicians

  • Acts a liaison between Operating Room staff and Operating Room manager

  • Makes recommendations to Operating Room manager for potential cost-effective improvements
  • Assists in monitoring FTE utilization and coordinated with Operating Room manager to make recommendations to promote cost-effective practices
  • Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the organization’s adopted compliance program
  • Performs according to established compliance policies and procedures
  • Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the organization's adopted performance-improvement program, policies, and procedures

  • Coordinates patient-care activities with surgeons and anesthesia providers to provide continuity of patient care
  • Assists Operating Room manager in identifying and solving departmental patient care problems
  • Assists Operating Room manager to oversee all activities during an emergency to verify that patient needs are met
  • Participates in primary care of patients as needed and oversees clinical areas to verify that patients’ needs are met
  • Assists Operating Room manager to enforce the implementation of practice standards and licensing and accreditation rules/regulations to provide quality patient care
  • Recommends to Operating Room manager any revision in patient-care policies and procedures as necessary to conform to accepted principles and practices
  • Respects patients’ right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
  • Monitors the care of the operative area and the equipment to ensure cleanliness, sterility, and operational ability at all times
  • Controls staff/patient traffic to help prevent infections
  • Prepares daily personnel assignments and delegates duties according to experience and skill level to provide quality patient care
  • Serve as resource and mentor for operating room staff
  • Assists in cross-training clinical staff to create a productive work environment for all clinical areas
  • Assists the Operating Room manager in evaluating the performance of all clinical personnel and for assessing and continuously improving the quality of care and services
  • Observes performance of clinical staff members in the operating room and provides feedback to Operating Room manager
  • Ensures that staff implement established facility policies and procedures
  • Participates in designated committees, to include COC meetings
  • Analyzes clinical documentation to ensure facility’s policies/procedures are followed
  • Serves as a liaison among patients, families, nursing, and medical staff to coordinate quality patient care
  • Promotes harmonious relations and favorable attitudes among the healthcare team
