About The Position

This position directs the operations of a major division within a large advanced wastewater treatment plant through subordinate supervisors. This involves the supervision and training of a large group of employees. Responsible for meeting all local, state and federal permits, and operating within the budget that has been appropriated for the Division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent education, licensing, and experience to efficiently perform the duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Six years of experience and three of the six in a supervisory capacity, or eight years at an advanced wastewater treatment plant with supervisory experience, or ten years of experience in a similarly related process in another field.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (or predecessor agency), Class B Wastewater Operator’s Certificate of Competency required. Class A Certificate required (within 2 years of position acceptance).
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of primary, secondary and tertiary treatment, solids handling, disposal, conditioning and incineration at a large, advanced wastewater treatment plant.
  • Must possess supervisory ability and managerial talents.
  • Requires a high level of mental attentiveness, patience and persistence with a high degree of concentration.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the control of the treatment process, utilizing data furnished by the laboratory results and computer.
  • Responsible for the effective utilization of shift supervisors.
  • Responds to malfunctions of equipment and other emergencies at any time, day or night.
  • Actively communicates with other supervisors to ensure optimum cooperation among Divisions.
  • Ensures the effective monitoring and operation of all equipment and facilities for which the Division is responsible.
  • Ensures conformance with existing state and federal laws which are pertinent to water and air pollution abatement.
  • Responsible for training new employees and continuing training of experienced personnel. Secures all licensing information and requirements.
  • Develops and analyzes various field and process reports to ensure that proper process operations are being maintained.
  • Responsible for emergency response personnel as directed by manager.
  • Ensures continued attention to accident prevention and safety.
  • Prepares cost and operational reports concerning the Division and development of operational strategies to improve operations.
  • Directly supervises a group of operations employees to include hiring, training, scheduling and performance evaluation.
  • Employees assigned to this position are classified as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to report to work when scheduled during departmental and/or emergency situations including, but not limited to, extended periods of inclement weather when travel may be difficult. This position is essential because in the absence of sufficient personnel, the plant cannot operate safely.
