Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university.
  • 4 years of directly related experience in the lumber or building materials industry.
  • Knowledge/experience in building materials, procurement, inventory management, and supervision of people.
  • Strong customer service experience.
  • Good organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple operations that control the flow of materials both to and from the location.
  • Responsible for the overall operations and physical conditions of the location’s facilities and equipment.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the delivery and warehousing functions.
  • Partner with lead managers of departments and help to train and develop personnel involved in the operations function.
  • Budget and control operating costs to meet or exceed annual profit targets.
  • Plan operations strategies and goals, establishing each department’s priorities for the smooth flow of products to customers.
  • Review team and team member performance on a regular basis by compiling operational reports.
  • Resolve problems relating to processes, costs, orders, maintenance, inventory control, equipment/trucks, services, and systems.
  • Prepare overall operations schedules and coordinate staffing problems with team leaders.
  • Resolve team member issues affecting overall performance of the division.
  • Foster cross department interaction/communications with key team members.
  • Take an active role in employee training programs for drivers, yard personnel, and supervisors.
  • Analyze and maintain all vendor evaluations and make necessary recommendations.
  • Participate in decisions to accept or reject orders.
  • Direct the implementation of safe operating practices in compliance with Company and regulatory policies.
  • Plan and implement equipment and facility design upgrades and maintenance.
  • Participate in professional trade groups and customer appreciation events.
