Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the daily operations of the production units within Elmore's Primary Operations Departments. You will have the opportunity to: Provide overall direction and guidance to the operation to grow a culture of safety while maximizing growth and profitability. Guide a culture of continuous improvement in all facets of manufacturing excellence. Encourage challenging the status quo in the pursuit of daily improvement. Assures that the Safety, Environmental, Quality, Production, Cost & Yield, Customer Satisfaction, On-time Delivery, and Equipment Reliability objectives of Primary Operations are met, improved, and tracked. Plans for the longer-term needs of the department. Direct staffing and development of hourly and salaried team members and create an environment with high morale, where engaged team members are motivated to produce timely, high-quality products for the best price; interact with all employees directly or through direct reports regularly. A frequent presence on the manufacturing floor is essential. Manage production costs and product quality and enhancing programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation. Use raw materials, recycle, and scrap materials to maximize value and maintain high-quality products. Plan and forecast department’s requirements related to equipment, staffing, materials, and facilitate to establish budgets for labor and materials. Manage policy deployment in the areas of Lean Manufacturing techniques, quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls, and department performance measures. Maintain department production capacities through capital investment and maintenance to ensure consistent reliability and to compensate for design and product changes. Interact regularly with customer representatives and internal support departments (Operations, Sales, R&D, Procurement, Finance, HR, etc.).

Requirements

  • The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field, Production/Operations management, Material Science, Metallurgy, technical or business-related field.
  • 5+ years of a combination of proven leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, engineering experience, and demonstrated progression of increased responsibilities.
  • The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
  • Please understand that any job offer that requires approval of an export license will be conditional on Materion’s determination that it will be able to obtain an export license in a time frame consistent with Materion’s business requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Induction furnace and electric arc furnace technical experience preferred.
  • Furnace construction and refractories, furnace ventilation, and casting mold design experiences are preferred.
  • Foundry experience is preferred.
