About The Position

This position is a hybrid position, combining the duties of a Core Transit dispatcher as well as the road supervisor responsibilities. Supervises daily transit operations to ensure safe, friendly, and efficient delivery of transit services, including oversight of day-to-day scheduling, routing, bus operators, and equipment. Maximizes resources to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of transit services throughout Eagle County. This position exercises a high degree of independence and discretion to resolve challenging operational issues in real time and in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Serves as a first point of contact for passengers and the general public for transit-related questions and information.

Requirements

  • 1 year in transportation required.
  • Ability to manage teams and resolve conflicts; supervisory experience preferred.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Must currently possess a CDL
  • Currently Employed by Core Transit.

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective leadership for bus operators in support of our daily transit service, including supervision of up to 30 transit employees at any one time.
  • Responsible for overseeing complex daily operations including coordination of work shift assignments, daily schedules, availability of safe and well-maintained equipment, and responsiveness to daily issues.
  • Travels all areas of the bus system to assess the condition of roads and bus stops/shelters.
  • Proactively identifies hazards and traffic issues and relays this information to those who may be impacted.
  • Responsible for resolving problems in the field such as route deviation, passenger issues, customer conflict, breakdowns, bus exchanges, and accidents.
  • Communicates with management staff regarding these issues and their resolution as appropriate.
  • Has direct contact with operators during routes to assist with driver requests.
  • Conducts field inspections as necessary.
  • Leads, instructs and directs in areas of safe driving practices and customer service.
  • Monitors each employee’s daily work and coordinates activities to ensure that work is performed efficiently and according to appropriate guidelines and procedures.
  • Leads, coaches, and mentors transit operators.
  • First point of contact for assessing operator fitness for duty in accordance with DOT regulations and standards, including DOT regulations for drug and alcohol testing.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with employees, members of the general public, and local government agencies/officials throughout the service area.
  • Maintains awareness of the location of all fleet vehicles and communicates with Fleet Asset Supervisor and maintenance providers as necessary.
  • Analyzes ridership, scheduling, and route trends and regularly relays this information to the Operations & Demand Response Supervisor.
  • Assists with development of future schedules and route construction.
  • Investigates passenger complaints and accidents involving transit vehicles.
  • Ensures that appropriate information is compiled and assists vehicle operators in preparation of accident reports.
  • Verifies that all paperwork submitted is fully compliant including but not limited to accident and incident reports.
  • Works with local law enforcement at accident/incident scenes to ensure accurate transfer of information and clearance.
  • Coordinates the administering of drug and alcohol testing in the event of an accident, incident, or reasonable suspicion as required by federal and Core Transit guidelines.
  • Provides information to other departments, agencies, and the general public regarding route, traffic, and policy changes.
  • May fill in to cover shifts, runs, or other positions as necessary to ensure continual operations of the system.
  • Responsible for overseeing the availability of safe well-maintained equipment; this may require performing minor repairs to buses/bus equipment including but not limited to destination signs, headlights, wipers and mirrors.
  • Observes safety and security procedures, uses equipment and materials safely, and reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Serves the community by demonstrating Core Transit mission and core values and following relevant policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned
