About The Position

Under general supervision, the MRF Operations Supervisor will operate and oversee Metro Waste Authority’s Material Recovery Facility production and personnel. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the facilities and equipment in a clean and safe manner and maximizing the efficiency of operations.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience and/or training
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for shift operational activities, directly leading and supervising employees, including temps.
  • Works with Maintenance Manager in coordination of maintenance activities and schedules.
  • Participates in and supervises receiving, inventory, sorting, processing, recycling, proper disposal, shipping, and record keeping.
  • With guidance from the Recycling Operations Manager, determines processing activities to be completed using market information and specifications, while understanding strategy for waste and recyclable management.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reacting to shift safety, cleanliness, quality, and production goals.
  • Conducts tailgate safety meetings, daily operations briefing, and training sessions.
  • Operates processing equipment in the facility and provides instruction and training for others on equipment operations, including all safety and emergency procedures.
  • Provides appropriate training, including all safety training and emergency procedures.
  • Responsible for the performance management, timecard review and approvals, of MRF staff and facilitate annual review for employees.
  • Responsible for interviewing and hiring new facility employees.
  • Assists in the development and the implementation of procedures for equipment operations.
  • In coordination with the facility manager, makes recommendations on the annual budget and reviews budgetary expenditures.
  • Assists in monitoring and providing technical guidance to commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors.
  • Responsible for cleaning of facility and equipment throughout each day’s work; washing, sweeping, and servicing as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Responsible for site maintenance including litter control, lawn maintenance and snow removal.
  • Adheres to facility cleanliness, organizational systems and facility standard work procedures while maintaining a vision for continuous improvement.
  • Assists with and helps coordinates snow removal of the campus
  • Monitors equipment dash boards to help drive data-based decisions for facility optimization
  • Operates MWA equipment (to include roll off truck, front-end loader, and forklift) as needed based on operational need.
  • Assists with can redemption and compost sales
