About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Operations Supervisor in Metal Recycling to join our waste and recycling management team! Your Role: As an Operations Supervisor in Metal Recycling, you will oversee the daily operations of metal collection, processing, and recycling activities to ensure efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance. You will be responsible for managing personnel and equipment to meet production targets, maintaining high standards of safety and regulatory compliance, and supporting the District Manager in achieving operational and financial goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, or a related field preferred
  • Proven experience as an operations supervisor, preferably in the waste management or transportation industry
  • Strong knowledge of waste management practices and regulations
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Proficiency in using operational management software and other relevant computer applications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks as needed

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of teams involved in the collection, sorting, processing, and shipment of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and scrap metal recycling standards.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures to improve throughput, reduce contamination, and enhance material recovery rates.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as tonnage processed, equipment uptime, and safety incidents to drive continuous improvement.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate staff to ensure safe handling of materials and proper use of heavy equipment such as shears, balers, and loaders.
  • Collaborate with logistics and dispatch teams to optimize inbound and outbound material flow and ensure timely service to industrial and commercial clients.
  • Address customer inquiries and complaints related to scrap metal pickups, pricing, and service quality, ensuring prompt and professional resolution.
  • Maintain accurate records of material volumes, equipment maintenance, safety inspections, and regulatory compliance documentation.
  • Lead regular safety meetings and enforce safety protocols to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of recycling equipment and fleet vehicles, ensuring minimal downtime and operational readiness.
