About The Position

The Operator in Training is responsible for performing routine checks of water and wastewater treatment facilities to ensure compliance with TCEQ regulations under the supervision of the operations manager. Also, they will perform related preventative and corrective maintenance work. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform routine checks of small facilities to ensure compliance with TCEQ (small facilities = 250 or less). Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance and/or schedule as needed in plants. Investigate work orders on issues such as water leaks, pressure, quality, and other customer meter-related issues. Execute flushing as per SOP’s & TCEQ requirements. Perform related responsibilities as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Required to obtain both a TCEQ Class D Water and a Class D Wastewater license within one (1) year of their date of hire. Failure to attempt and/or obtain the required licenses within the twelve (12)-month period may result in termination of employment for failure to meet the licensing requirements necessary to operate water and wastewater facilities. If an OIT earns either or both required licenses, and a position becomes available, they will not be eligible for promotion until a minimum of six (6) months has passed from the date of hire.

  • Ability to assess industry standards of chemicals in plants.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Visibility of work requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and discretion with confidential information.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficient computer skills, including electronic mail and some experience with basic accounting software, compliance software, and financial analysis software.
  • Ability to see 20-20 when corrected.
  • Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers in a repetitive manner.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
  • The ability to work in loud, hot environments/extreme weather while wearing required PPE.
  • Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
  • 40+ hours/week required according to the needs of the department; schedule set by Operations as needed to meet production schedules.
  • No overnight travel by land and/or air.
