ColumbiaDoctors practices comprise an experienced group of more than 2,800 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurses, offering more than 240 specialties and subspecialties. Opportunity to grow as part of the Ophthalmic Technician Career Ladder! Job Summary: The Ophthalmic Technician II provides excellent patient care from basic eye health to surgical interventions. The technicians assist the physicians in the examination and treatment of patients. Our technicians are responsible for managing patients based on the appointment types, triage phone calls, performing testing and imaging as needed, ensuring exam rooms are prepped, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of ophthalmology experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in ophthalmic care in one or more imaging modalities
  • Must demonstrate proficiency conducting basic ophthalmic pre-examinations and anterior imaging skill

Nice To Haves

  • Certification(s), COA preferred but not required
  • Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • Ability to perform refinement refraction using the Jackson-Cross cylinder method preferred.
  • JCAHO certification preferred.
  • Prior EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-examination of patients for all specialties across all sites.
  • Assist physicians with in-office procedures
  • Greet patients and visitors
  • Responsible for patient histories, visual acuity assessment and manual refractions, anterior segment examination, applanation tonometry, pupil evaluation, confrontation field, and Amsler grid
  • Perform basic diagnostic testing
  • Accurate documentation and reconciliation of drug logs to ensure proper inventory
  • Responsible for the sterilization and calibration of instruments
  • Call triage and call processing of patient matters
  • Maintain accurate and legible documentation in patient records
  • Other duties as assigned
