About The Position

Reality Labs focuses on delivering Meta's roadmap through creating advanced AI enabled wearables. Come work alongside industry-leading scientists and engineers to create the technology that makes wearables pervasive and universal. Our scientists have experience designing, modeling, and prototyping advanced systems. This role is focused on long term research typically aiming for a 5+ year horizon for potential intercept.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • PhD in Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in one or more of the following disciplines: geometrical, physical optics, computational imaging, nanophototics or micro-optics emphasizing modeling and hardware prototyping
  • Experience with programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, and Mathematica)
  • Demonstrated experience in optics and display fundamental understanding including display optics, imaging, illumination, radiometry and colorimetry, physical and geometric optics, and polarization, and enabling 0 to 1 type of innovations
  • Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional environment with minimal direction

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience in definition, characterization, and optimization of near-eye display systems
  • 3+ years of experience in working with emissive sources for near-eye displays (lasers and LED’s), spatial light modulators, diffractive optics, photonics, metrology methods, and optical materials
  • 3+ years of experience in design and modeling near-to-eye display systems, or in fabrication and functional testing of novel optics and photonics components, devices and architectures
  • 3+ years of experience in one or more optical design tools such as COMSOL, Zemax, Code V, LightTools, FRED, ASAP, Lumerical, or Virtual Lab, and AI assisted designs
  • 3+ years of experience in developing prototypes and collaborate in a team environment across a broad set of disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, and Optics
  • Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at workshops or conferences (eg. SID, OSA, IEEE, and SPIE)

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel concepts, components, and/or system architectures for next generation wearables
  • Implement proof-of-concept hardware prototypes
  • Evaluate and verify performance of components and/or systems
  • Engage cross-functionally with researchers and engineers to explore novel concepts that advance the entire pipeline (hardware, software, integration, infrastructure and applications)
