ROLE This position is based in the Torquay facility and will focus on the electronic test of new laser modules and sub-systems with applications across the industrial, Aerospace & Defence (A&D) and bio-photonics market segments. You will be working with colleagues across the business including R&D, Product, Software and Manufacturing Engineering as well as Operations supporting the test solutions for manufacture. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team including firmware, optical and mechanical engineers developing new cutting-edge products for applications in satellite communications, industrial sensing and biomedical imaging, which will drive and deliver sustained revenue growth.

Requirements

  • Engineering (Optics/Electronics/Mechanical/Software) or Science based Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience in an electronics/test engineering role.
  • Experience in technical design, process development.
  • Proven internal presentation skills.
  • Practical experience in configuring product tests for new products and creating associated documentation.
  • Essential Knowledge or experience of the full product lifecycle, including taking test solutions from initial discussions through to requirements, test hardware and equipment design to final integration into manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of laboratory test equipment (optical power meters, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes and similar).
  • Adaptable in a rapid changing design environment supporting manufacturing and customer needs.
  • Ability to work across multiple business functions with strong communication skills and problem-solving initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in photonics components & Modules (EDFA) preferable.
  • Proficiency in C# .NET / .NET Core, Visual Studio, and modern software development practices preferable.
  • Test software awareness; C#, LabVIEW, Python.
  • Knowledge on manufacturing techniques and their capabilities.
  • Understanding of Telcordia, MIL and/or ECSS/ECSS qualification standards.
  • Ability to create and give technical presentations to customers and partners.
  • Understand the business system tools, ERP, NPI, Engineering Change, software and complete all related activities against company procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electronic and opto-electronic engineering test solutions from concept to manufacture, including equipment configuration, test data generation and test specifications.
  • Define the test requirements, specification and product reliability as required.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and perform electronic/opto-electronic analysis and test.
  • Prepare presentation material and reports to a high standard for the test phases and introduction into manufacturing.
  • Responsible for the handover of test solutions from design to production including necessary documentation and trainings.
  • Work with Business Development and Engineering teams to support new opportunities and generate product solutions for customers.
  • Deliver test solutions from initial design, to a prototyping environmental, product qualification, through to production readiness using internal or customer-driven NPI process.
  • Meet deadlines, maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.
  • Contribute the development of test, alignment and process software for opto-electronic modules and discrete devices using in-house test architectures.
  • Working positively to develop and foster good working relationships with colleagues and contracted personnel in order to maintain a culture of mutual respect and dignity
