About The Position

The Opto-Mechanical Engineer II position is responsible for contributing to the design, testing, and development of advanced optical systems. This role focuses on creating high-quality products that meet rigorous performance standards while supporting product innovation, refinement, and production readiness. This position is based at our Orofino, Idaho facility and requires the candidate to work on-site (Relocation assistance may be available for highly qualified candidates).

Requirements

  • Proficiency in optical design software and CAD tools.
  • Strong understanding of optical principles, including ray tracing, wavefront analysis, and coatings.
  • Familiarity with optical and electro-optical testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for optical systems, including inject molding, machining, and coatings.
  • Knowledge of material properties and thermal/environmental testing of optical systems.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.
  • 3 – 5 years of professional experience in optical design and development, with expertise in magnified and electro-optics systems.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and troubleshooting optical and electro-optical assemblies.
  • Experience designing and fabricating custom test fixtures and equipment.
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, pre-employment drug screening, employment verification and reference checks.
  • US Citizenship Required

  • Masters’s Degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline

Responsibilities

  • Develop cutting-edge electro-optical devices, integrating optical, mechanical, and electronic components.
  • Test and analyze electro-optical and mechanical systems to ensure adherence to performance standards and reliability criteria.
  • Create and refine designs for advanced optical systems, ensuring optimal functionality and performance for intended applications.
  • Perform testing and validation, using appropriate tools and methodologies to verify specifications and quality.
  • Design and fabricate customize test equipment and fixtures for optical assembly and quality control processes.
  • Ensure test setups support precise measurement and evaluation of optical components and systems during production.
  • Work closely with external manufacturers to design, produce, and troubleshoot components and subassemblies.
  • Provide clear technical specifications, oversee progress, and resolve production challenges to ensure timely delivery of quality products.
  • Support the production team by implementing process improvements for manufacturing and assembly workflows.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of designs, test results, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Stay updated on advancements in optical engineering and manufacturing technologies to integrate innovative solutions into products.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and safety regulations in all activities.
  • Proficiency in product lifecycle management (PLM) and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
