About The Position

Job Summary: Under general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Chief Nursing Officer and direct supervision of Director of Surgical Services, Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, RN, or LPN, performs directed patient care and surgical technician assistance for an assigned number of patients. At all times, patient assignments will be determined by adjustment of patient census and current staffing levels which is reviewed daily. Will be required to provide surgical technical assistance with service lines procedures per operating room standards and departmental policy. Additionally, will be required to process specimens, restock rooms and maintain stock of sterilized instruments. Will be required to perform nurse technician duties. As determined by the Nurse Manager, the OR Tech will be assigned up to 40 hours per week, along with mandatory call including weekends and Holidays according to the needs of the unit and staff. The staff will work flex schedule according to the needs of the unit and staff. Required to work holidays and weekends. Call rotation required, to provide 24hours service. The technician is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. Will be responsible to assist with orientation of other nurse technicians, student or other assigned staff. Must be able to work and relate in a professional, non-defensive manner with peers, physicians, mid-level providers, administration, patients, and visitors. Will assist in nursing care preparing the patient for surgical procedures by performance of routine delegated duties, to collect selected patient information and perform patient care as directed by the Nurse Manager, RN-1 or Charge Nurse RN or LPN. Will be responsible to document total care given, review and maintain medical record per policy, and assist with accurate and timely entry of patient data, orders, and charges into computer system. Demonstrates the ability to assist with the care for patients with postoperative needs. The operating room technician personal performs scrub duties, performs housekeeping duties as necessary and assist in maintenance of all supplies rotating supplies and checking for expiration dates of products. The operating room technician assist with elective, urgent, emergent and elective scheduled case, assist in preparation, transportation and supervision of patients and maintaining education in surgical and related aspects of nursing. Possess adequate knowledge of specific job-related skills including maintaining accurate patient information/date entry, demonstrates accuracy and skill in use of hospital computer systems, submits departmental reports as needed, orders and picks up supplies as needed/directed, has knowledge of word processing and enters appropriate patient charges. Demonstrates ability to assist with bowel, cleaning preps and ability to perform surgical skin prep. Demonstrates the ability to provide comfort measures on assigned patients. Demonstrates the ability to recognize changes in the patient’s condition. Provides normal basic care . Attendance to yearly mandatory education/ HealthStream requirements is nonnegotiable and will be the responsibility of the employee to arrange and attend sessions. The employee is responsible for maintaining all certification and licensure requirements on time.
