About The Position

The Inspector works directly with MOSA clients to conduct Annual, Unannounced, and Additional Inspections to verify overall compliance of the operation with the National Organic Standards and other regulatory standards by documenting on-site observations and evaluations. This position requires regular regional travel to conduct interviews and audit records of operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2,000 hours of experience and/or education in agriculture, food processing, and/or organic industry experience
  • Minimum of 50 hours of experience conducting organic inspections
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Organizational, time management, and administrative skills
  • Ability to write clear inspection reports
  • Excellent observational skills
  • Proficient with Google Suite, word processing, databases, and Internet research
  • Ability to spend long periods working on a computer
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain at inspections
  • Work in outdoor weather conditions and around all species of livestock
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a company vehicle to and from inspections
  • Access to a Smartphone or equivalent systems for navigation, scanning, and communication

Responsibilities

  • Completes Initial Reviews of client applications in preparation for completing assigned inspections
  • Communicate directly with clients to schedule inspection appointments while prioritizing files with timing needs
  • Conducts a thorough inspection of all areas requested for certification, including records required to verify compliance
  • Documents changes to the operation’s Organic System Plan and supporting information/documents
  • Addresses any questions and/or concerns noted in MOSA’s previous assessments of the client’s Organic System Plan
  • Compiles information collected through on-site observations and audits into a final report and submits the report and inspection billing information
  • Performs additional verification and/or collects information to enable MOSA to determine the client’s compliance with the National Organic Standards and MOSA's certification program
  • Provides excellent service to all stakeholders, including staff, contract inspectors, clients, consumers
  • Conducts a thorough exit interview with the client and documents any findings or areas of concern
  • Collects residue samples of organic commodities as assigned
  • Conducts unannounced and additional inspections as assigned
  • Conducts field evaluations of staff and contract inspectors as directed
  • Actively participates in the Inspection team process improvements and the continued development of the certification program
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and training, and represents MOSA’s Inspection program at industry events as needed or required
  • Continue annual education to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the National Organic Program, National Organic Standards, Certification Department Policy Manual, Inspection Manual, and other MOSA verifications or certifications
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of MOSA’s policies and procedures as outlined in MOSA’s Program Manual, Employee Manual, and MOSA’s Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Other duties assigned by the Inspection Manager
