About The Position

Provides primary support to the provider by proactively anticipating the provider needs, preparing the patient for the visit using established patient preparation guidelines, maintaining efficient patient flow, and assisting the provider with treatments and procedures. Performs procedures with completed and documented competency, within organizations MA scope of work, PHS policy and under the supervision of a provider. Administers approved medications under the order and supervision of the provider. Provides support for clerical functions to include scheduling, referrals, and prior authorizations. Performs activities to maintain a clean, stocked, safe, and well-organized patient care environment. Provides in-basket support with the EMR. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Six months of MA experience or successful completion of a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant program from an accredited school required
  • Successful completion of Presbyterian MA Advanced Skills Training within 90 days of hire
  • BLS (AHA, Red Cross or ASHI Healthcare Provider) required within 90 days of hire
  • Maintains current certifications in required emergency response trainings (i.e. BLS)
  • Completes all Organizational, Department of Nursing and Department-Specific competency training/requirements within specified timeframe.
  • Orthopedic and Podiatry Departments Only: ROT Registered Orthopedic Technologist ¿ Required within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing medical assistant procedures after completion of competency within organizations MA scope of work, under the supervision of a provider and PHS policy.
  • Prepares patient for rooming and exam
  • Prepares and administers medications and immunizations
  • Suture/Staple removal and dressing changes
  • Collects and prepares laboratory specimens
  • Provides basic education to patients
  • Sets up aseptic and sterile procedures
  • Performs office-based procedures
  • Performs basic foot care
  • Assists with additional procedures as determined by provider
  • Participates in the orientation of new hire MAs
  • May perform regulatory audits
  • Assists with visit closure
  • Participates with care team to meet patient care and clinic needs.
  • May perform scribe duties after completing PMG scribe training
  • Performs other duties as directed
  • Responsible for Kanban system for stocking exam and procedure rooms.
  • May perform supply ordering as directed
  • Maintains a clean, organized, safe, well-stocked environment, and follows infection prevention and regulatory standards
  • Participates with care team to meet patient care and clinic needs.
  • Provides support for clerical functions when needed.
  • Manages patients calls and in-basket messages
  • Schedules patient appointments according to guidelines
  • Monitors providers schedule to identify no shows for rescheduling.
  • Manages prior authorization for durable medical equipment, diagnostics, medications and/or specialties
  • Manages referrals for diagnostic testing or specialist
  • Manages and maintains tracking of Advanced Directives, FMLA, and other patient forms.
  • Uses cares principles as well as good listening, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary team to meet patient care and clinic operation needs.
  • Prepares patient for the visit using established patient preparation guidelines, collecting appropriate and accurate data, and providing all aspects of primary support to the provider
  • Responsible for taking patient calls and initiating Telephone Encounter(s) for the providers and care team.
  • Communicates pertinent patient data to provider, keeping them informed of issues and concerns regarding patients or the environment
  • May serve as a point of care trainer within the clinic setting
  • Uses equipment and performs patient care procedures in a safe, competent manner according to defined standards of practice
  • Works collaboratively with the care team to meet process improvement goals and clinical quality metrics
  • Applies customer service principles as well as good listening, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
