We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Orthopedic Technician to join our Orthopedics/Sports Medicine team! Our practice is located at 7 Marsh Brook Drive in Somersworth, NH. We are one of the largest and most trusted providers of orthopedic care in New Hampshire, with practices in Somersworth, Lee and Portsmouth. We have been a leader in sports medicine for more than 40 years and are the official orthopedists and team physician group for the University of New Hampshire. The location for this role will primarily be in Somersworth; however, we may request cross coverage in Lee and Portsmouth when appropriate and as needed during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances. Our practice operates Monday through Friday from 8:00am–5:00pm, with a full‑time schedule that is thoughtfully staggered to support patient care and team collaboration. This role also offers exciting opportunities for cross‑coverage at our on‑site Orthopedic Walk‑In Clinic, which serves patients Monday through Friday from 8:00am–8:00pm and Saturdays from 8:00am–1:00pm. For team members who enjoy variety and expanding their skill set, this position encourages flexibility to occasionally work early hours, evenings, and weekends on a rotating basis—providing exposure to different clinical settings and a dynamic pace of care. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • 2-3 years related patient care experience required
  • General knowledge of standard orthopedic procedures and practices.
  • Working knowledge of orthopedic devices and appliances and proper fitting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology pertaining to orthopedics use.
  • Communicate effectively when instructing patients in the use and care of orthopedic devices and appliances.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staff.
  • Be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] preferred
  • Orthopaedic Technologist Certification [OTC] - National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists, Inc. preferred
  • 0–1 year experience in orthopedics preferred
  • The ideal candidate is a certified Ortho Tech with experience. However, this role offers a unique opportunity for Medical Assistants with experience to grow their careers through hands‑on training, mentorship, and cross‑training across orthopedic services, developing advanced skills in casting, brace fitting, orthopedic equipment support, and broader Orthopedic Technician responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and apply traction in accordance with standard procedures and instructions.
  • Assist with the application of casts, braces, and prostheses. Requisition, store, and dispense supplies as directed.
  • Inspect and maintain orthopedic equipment.
  • Instruct selected patients in cast care, simple exercises, and crutch or cane use. Apply sterile and non-sterile dressings.
  • Make splints, slings and foot pieces.
  • May make rounds with doctors of all orthopedic patients and carry out instructions.
  • Cut and fashion devices from metal, plastic, leather and wood using equipment and hand tools.
