About The Position

Harborview's Prosthetics and Orthotics Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, Ortho/Prosthetics Practitioner Trainee (Prosthetic/Orthotic Resident). The Resident is supervised by licensed, ABC certified Prosthetist/Orthotist. The resident participates in patient care commensurate with his/her level of advancement and responsibility. Resident will assess the prosthetic/orthotic needs of patients, design, modify and fit devices. The Resident will work collaboratively with other team members and demonstrate skills outlined in UW Service Culture guidelines. NCOPE guidelines and directives will be followed. Residency track and plan for project completion will be determined with the assistance of the Residency Director and Mentor. Resident must be reliable, must take initiative in his/her own clinical development, and must be able to work as part of a team. This person should be coachable and open to various points of view.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Orthotic/Prosthetic Practitioner program OR Equivalent education/experience.
  • Knowledge of: common methods, practices and materials used in fabrication of orthoses, prostheses, and adaptive equipment; use and care of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to: interpret drawings and specifications; perform ordinary arithmetic; comprehend forms in space and understand relationships of plane and solid objects; work within precise tolerances; use hand and power tools with skill; work safely.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients and determines the prosthetic or orthotic needs of a diverse patient population
  • Identifies impairments and functional limitations of individuals with limb loss or orthotic needs.
  • In collaboration with team, including patient, designs and implements interventions that meet biomechanical and functional objectives
  • Directs fabrication requirements
  • Modifies device as needed.
  • Follows up with patient to ensure effectiveness of device
  • Demonstrates competency in gait observation including normal and pathologic gait
  • Works with support staff to monitor WIP and ensure all projects are on track
  • All work is supervised by a licensed Prosthetist/Orthotist Practitioner
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
