About The Position

Spend your summer at Camp Tracy! Spend your summer outside inspiring curiosity, confidence, and a love for nature! The Outdoor Education Specialist works with campers ages 5–15, teaching the fundamentals of outdoor education—including plant identification, survival skills, environmental studies, and canoeing—in small, supportive group settings. This role is all about hands-on learning, exploration, and fun, while maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where campers can try new things and grow. From leading skill-based lessons to creating nature-themed games and special events, you’ll play a key role in shaping meaningful outdoor experiences for both Day and Resident Camp programs.

Requirements

  • Current CPR and first aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification)
  • Must be able to teach patrons and members the proper techniques and fundamentals of outdoor education.
  • Knowledge of the outdoors and basic survival skills.
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Prior experience working with kids.
  • Possess an associate’s or bachelor's degree in Education, Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, or a similar area of study.

Responsibilities

  • Follow proper opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of all campers & guests utilizing the outdoor education area; remedy all unsafe practices or conditions immediately.
  • Apply the outdoor education area policies and procedures at all times.
  • Instruct skills and safety classes at a variety of different levels.
  • Maintain outdoor education equipment and inspect issues; document unsafe equipment and remove it from the inventory to be repaired or replaced.
  • Acts as a senior staff member, working with the Camp Coordinator and other senior staff members, in the coordination of camp activities. In particular, the outdoor program as it relates to the overall camp program of both Day and Resident camps.
  • Provide first aid in emergency situations.
  • Perform general custodial and maintenance functions, as necessary.
  • Proper instruction of all aspects of canoeing.
  • Development of proper canoeing skills.
  • That it is an enjoyable activity for all campers & guests.
