About The Position

Outpatient Psychotherapist Behavioral Health Services - Milwaukee County Mental Health Clinic Hourly Pay Rate: $28.50 – $42.73 Closing Date: 4/8/2026 or upon receipt of the first 50 applications SIGN ON BONUS: $7,500 Job Summary: The Outpatient Psychotherapist provides individual, group, and/or family therapy sessions to individuals seeking to address behavioral health issues which warrant clinical treatment. The position will be part of multi-disciplinary team tasked with assessment, treatment planning, direct service, and reports to the Clinic Manager. This role will be required to participate in additional Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training and supervision.

Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Valid United States Driver's License, with the ability to obtain a Wisconsin Driver’s License within six (6) months of hire.
  • Master’s Degree or higher in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
  • Valid Wisconsin state licensure, free of limitations, OR able to provide proof of passed licensure exam and able to produce actual license within five (5) months of hire in one of the following: Advanced Practice Social Workers (APSW) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or (LPC-IT) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or (LMFT-IT)
  • At least three (3) years of experience in crisis services.
  • Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in delivering the DBT model as a framework for therapeutic practice.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial assessment of children and adolescents with mental health and co-occurring needs.
  • Regularly evaluate dangerousness to self and others in children and adolescents (suicidal and homicidal ideation).
  • Provide outpatient therapy to patients, focused on addressing issues that warranted intervention and in keeping with the treatment plan.
  • As needed, therapy will address any clinical issues as they arise, with regular assessment and mitigation of risk.
  • Effectively manage behaviors or coping strategies of concern by either therapeutic interventions or connecting to appropriate services and/or supports in the community until the danger is eliminated and the person is engaged in follow-up services.
  • Create treatment plans with input from patients and caregiver(s) (when indicated), focused on problem resolution and improved coping strategies.
  • Plans will utilize psychotherapeutic interventions and include regular assessment of risk of harm to self or others.
  • Consult supervisor, colleagues, and psychiatric team as clinically indicated to manage cases.
  • Provide community and client/caregiver education regarding crisis management and mental health service.
  • Participate in weekly supervision to manage caseload.
  • Document service delivery consistent with County, state, and licensing requirements.
  • Documentation includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic sessions, contact with patient and caregiver(s), treatment planning, and crisis management.
  • Participate in required clinic and Milwaukee County meetings to ensure continued dialogue with colleagues, as well as remain up to date on relevant issues that could impact clinic or communities served.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
