About The Position

In this role, you will inspire hope through a strength-based lens. You will promote empowerment and self-determination, provide opportunities for individuals to practice self-efficacy through activities that emphasize the acquisition, development, and enhancement of life skills in a home and community based setting. Your primary objective will be to build strong, trusting relationships with individuals and provide them with the inspiration and tools necessary to navigate their journey towards mental wellness.

Requirements

  • Personal and lived mental health and/ or recovery experience
  • NYS Driver’s License required
  • Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to multi- task
  • Able to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work individually, as well as part of a team
  • NYS Peer Certification Required (NYS-CPS or CRPA; provisional is acceptable)

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English and Spanish speaking is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Peer Support: Use your personal experience and recovery story to connect with individuals and effectively communicate empathy, understanding, and acceptance.
  • Individualized Assistance: Collaborate with clients to identify their strengths, needs, and personal goals, and support them in developing and implementing an individualized recovery plan.
  • Advocacy: Serve as a strong advocate for clients, promoting their rights, preferences, and choices, while working within the established guidelines and regulations.
  • Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and encouragement to individuals by actively listening, providing validation, and offering constructive feedback when appropriate.
  • Skill Development: Assist clients in developing and enhancing their coping skills, problem-solving abilities, and resilience through various evidence-based practices.
  • Group Facilitation: Organize and facilitate peer-led support groups, promoting a safe and empowering environment for individuals to share their experiences, learn from one another, and develop social connections.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, progress, and any relevant information, adhering to all legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Professional Development: Engage in regular training, supervision, and continuing education opportunities to stay up-to-date with current best practices in peer support, mental health recovery, and related fields.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate and establish positive working relationships with multidisciplinary teams, including mental health professionals, community organizations, and other service providers, to ensure holistic and coordinated care for clients.
