About The Position

“We Push the Boundaries of Possibilities for our Communities.” Overview of Position Responsibilities: The Outside Plant Field Engineer works to ensure the Bluepeak network is being constructed to Bluepeak’s network and operations standards. The Outside Plant Field Inspector (OSP/FE) is present on fiber optic construction projects to ensure that the construction of Bluepeak’s Fiber Optic Outside Plant, both aerial and underground, to include fiber, conduit, field electronics, and splicing and enclosures are being constructed to meet or exceed Bluepeak standards. This role will inspect the product of Bluepeak construction crews and will coordinate the remediation of any issues which prevent Bluepeak from accepting the constructed plant. The OSP/FE may be called upon to create, review, and approve detailed field records of the installed infrastructure. The OSP/FE will consider the impact on construction, installation, and future maintenance in developing when assessing the fiber infrastructure. Focused on the post-construction aspects of infrastructure, the OSP/FE must possess a comprehensive understanding of fiber design to effectively support engineering and construction efforts to ensure projects are planned and executed with safety, by the deadlines, within budget, and with the quality expected by Bluepeak.

Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree or 3+ years of equivalent experience required.
  • Experience in the telecommunication/cable industry strongly preferred.
  • Ability to perform analysis of fiber test results and apply pass/fail criteria.
  • Ability to read and understand maps, plan sets/drawings and diagrams for fiber construction.
  • Knowledge of Make-Ready Construction.
  • Effective time management with the ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, including the ability to articulate ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
  • Adept at identifying potential project roadblocks and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to achieve results effectively and professionally.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in changing and/or challenging situations.
  • MS Office Suite: Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, ccess, and OneNote.
  • Test analysis, power meters, OTDR platforms, GIS systems and fiber asset management systems.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to bend, twist, push, pull, crawl, reach, stand, climb, and walk in construction areas.
  • Required to use hands, handle objects and paperwork.
  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
  • Required to refrain from personal use of technology during working hours.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to work in loud construction environments.
  • Must be able to pass MVR and have a valid drivers license.

Responsibilities

  • Address outside plant construction issues by assessing, planning, and developing proposals to solve those issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Uphold Bluepeak standards for construction of outside plant to include aerial plant, underground plant, splicing efforts, field equipment installations and processes related to the installation, removal, of plant.
  • Communicate with municipality/agencies of jurisdiction, customers, and residents of communities Bluepeak operates within related to construction work in progress.
  • Ensure that documentation (i.e., takes pictures, hand-notes, sketches) of job sites, pole conditions and other relevant structures or landmarks to help illustrate and demonstrate the quality of design and construction services provided by contractors to Bluepeak is accurate, complete and timely.
  • As part of the IFC process, review permits and ROW documentation and ensure work is being conducted safely and according to the permitted design and instruction. Inclusive of hand drawn sketches of recommended engineering design while in the field.
  • Effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct new substructure site surveys and site walks.
  • Observe safety standards while on job sites and helps promote site safety and may help conduct job site safety assessments from time to time.
  • All other related duties as assigned.
