Packaging Engineering is actively seeking a skilled engineer in North America to provide critical support for Powertrain and Vehicle Programs. In this position... You will focus on expendable packaging solutions tailored for Export, Stockpiling, and Warehousing projects. In addition, you will be responsible for the comprehensive design, strategic procurement, and efficient deployment of specialized shipping containers for a wide range of automotive parts.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Packaging Engineering or Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain / Logistics
  • Experience with expendable packaging (corrugate / wood / expendable steel racking)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel as needed (typically within U.S./Canada/Mexico and 1–3-day duration)

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Teamcenter Engineering
  • CATIA V5 experience
  • Fabrication knowledge with Steel and Aluminum racking
  • Experience with the deployment of packaging interfacing with automation
  • Experience with vac form and injection-molded dunnage
  • Experience with expendable packaging (corrugate / wood / expendable steel racking)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Ford Purchasing to manage the entire procurement cycle, including quoting, bid analysis, and order placement with fabricators and manufacturers.
  • Evaluate fabricator quality planning to ensure adherence to established standards and expectations.
  • Coordinate and execute comprehensive transportation testing, working with test engineers to define criteria and document pass/fail conditions.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans as needed to resolve issues identified during testing.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for container designs, focusing on: Increasing pack density to optimize freight and labor costs. Reducing container unit and tooling costs through design optimization and the adoption of new technologies. Enhancing part protection, functionality, and durability.
  • Participate in campaign efforts to address container repair and quality issues.
  • Advance the field of packaging engineering by exploring and integrating new technologies, methodologies, and innovative ideas.
