About The Position

The Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of packaging equipment in a high-volume tortilla manufacturing environment. This role ensures product is packaged accurately, meets quality standards, and production targets are achieved with minimal downtime.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Prior experience operating packaging machinery in food manufacturing (tortilla/bakery experience preferred).
Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Ability to read basic production documents and follow standard operating procedures.
Strong teamwork, communication skills, and reliability.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

Experience with automated packaging systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

Set up, operate, monitor, and adjust packaging equipment on tortilla production lines.
Ensure proper feed, alignment, sealing, weighing, and labeling of finished products.
Perform changeovers for different products, bag sizes, or packaging formats.
Run machinery according to daily production schedules while adhering to quality standards.
Inspect packaged product for defects, package integrity, weight accuracy, and labeling accuracy.
Adhere to food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including HACCP, allergen control, and sanitation procedures.
Report quality issues to supervisors and assist in root-cause identification.
Conduct routine machine checks and minor corrective adjustments to maintain continuous operations.
Identify mechanical issues and escalate to maintenance teams when required.
Clean packaging equipment following standardized procedures at shift end.
Follow all plant and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
Wear required PPE (hair net, gloves, safety shoes, etc.) and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Participate in daily safety briefings and continuous improvement initiatives.
