Paleontology Student Summer Intern
About The Position
Execute collection inventories and move specimens under guidance of Paleontology Staff. Reorganize paleontology specimens and keep detailed inventories of their new locations and destinations. As part of the rehousing process, make custom cavity mounts for paleontology specimens. Under guidance from Paleontology Department staff, prepare fossil material in the SMM Paleontology Lab. Assist in planning and logistics to arrange fieldwork. Communicate the results of the project at public events and potentially at a professional conference. Performs other related duties as assigned. Potential volunteer opportunity to participate in paleontological fieldwork in Montana and/or North Dakota (requires overnight stay, potentially camping). Travel expenses would be covered by SMM.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate (2 or 4 year) degree program in a related field such as paleontology, geology, biology, or museum studies, with two years of coursework or equivalent experience completed by the start of the position, is required.
