About The Position

Scion is paving a path in student living and we’re seeking a talented Paralegal to join us in executing our vision. This position will focus on supporting corporate and property operations teams in the drafting, interpretation and enforcement of legal documents and in efforts to maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Paralegal will effectively serve as a liaison between property staff and the corporate office, helping to communicate and implement legal requirements and company policies, training and guiding property staff through complex legal matters and elevating issues for resolution by Staff Attorneys, the Vice President of Legal Affairs, the General Counsel and/or outside attorneys, as appropriate. This role demands exceptional communication skills, creative problem solving, a customer-centric mindset, acute attention to detail and objectivity.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certification and Associate's degree or greater is strongly preferred; 1-3 years of Paralegal experience in a law office, corporate legal department or other transactional practice is strongly preferred.
  • A customer service orientation is essential.
  • The ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with complex business concepts is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in commercial contract preparation and review is required.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of programs and comfortable operating in property management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal certification and Associate's degree or greater is strongly preferred; 1-3 years of Paralegal experience in a law office, corporate legal department or other transactional practice is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with complex business concepts is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds promptly and professionally to requests for assistance from property staff.
  • Drafts, revises, interprets and explains commercial contracts.
  • Drafts and revises housing agreements and other relevant real estate documents.
  • Identifies and responds promptly and professionally to resident complaints, vendor disputes and regulatory matters, and elevates to attorneys as required.
  • Supports property operations staff with clear and consistent information regarding legal- and policy-related situations involving residents, staff and vendors.
  • Supports outside counsel on litigation matters.
  • Coordinates with inside and outside counsel on entity and asset acquisitions.
  • Identifies and addresses various reporting and compliance issues with lenders, partners and governmental bodies.
  • Monitors compliance with vendor insurance requirements.
  • Monitors and assists in resolution of insurance claims.
  • Other duties as assigned by Staff Attorneys, by the Vice President of Legal Affairs and/or the General Counsel.
